Most Failed Basements Fail For One Reason
Not the framing. Not the flooring. Water — because concrete is porous, and moisture moves through it as vapor even when the walls feel perfectly dry. Trap that moisture behind insulation and drywall and you’ve built a problem you can’t see until you can smell it.
So we start outside, with grading and downspouts. Then we find out how water is actually getting in. Only then do we talk about what the room will look like.
Handled As Part Of The Build
- Egress. A basement with living space needs a code-compliant escape window — 5.7 sq ft of clear opening. Cutting one is foundation work, and it’s in the budget from day one.
- Ceiling height. Seven feet of finished height for living space. We resolve the layout around ducts and beams before anything is built.
- Radon. Vanderburgh County is an EPA moderate-risk area. Roughing in a passive stack while the slab is open costs little; retrofitting later doesn’t.
- Humidity. Conditioned air and dedicated dehumidification, sized for the space — not a portable unit with a bucket.

Straight Answers
My basement gets damp a couple times a year. Can it still be finished?
Usually yes — but not until we know why. Sometimes it’s a downspout and the fix takes an afternoon. Sometimes it’s water pressure under the slab and it needs a drainage system. Finding out is the first thing we do, and it’s worth doing before you spend anything on finishes.
How long will it take?
A full finish typically runs several weeks of active work, plus lead time up front for design, permitting, and materials. You get a schedule with your proposal, and written notice if it changes.
Are you insured?
Yes — we’ll provide a certificate of insurance before work begins. Electrical, plumbing, and HVAC work is performed by appropriately licensed trades, and we’re glad to tell you exactly who’s doing what before you sign anything.

“Aiden and the entire team at Red Jack Restoration were phenomenal from start to finish. This basement project had become a nightmare before I found them. I had what felt like 50 contractors come look at it, with everything from aggressive upselling and quotes over $30,000 for a relatively simple finish project, to contractors ghosting me. By the time I found Red Jack, I was ready to give up and DIY the whole thing. Aiden changed that. He was actually about 15 minutes late to our initial appointment, but he communicated that he was running behind and arrived when he said he would. That may sound like a small thing, but after dealing with so many contractors who simply didn’t communicate, it immediately stood out.
